WEAVING THE WATER
at Temple of Alternative Histories
Staatstheater Kassel alongside Documenta 15
May - September 2022 curated by Anna Run Tryggvadottir, Cassandra Edlefsen Lasch and Thorleifur Orn Arnasson.
The Temple Project is an interdisciplinary experiment in which visual and performing arts work together with the participation of the wider community to collectively create narratives in the space between fact and fiction. In 2022 (March-September), the temple project will bring together performing arts (opera, dance, theatre), contemporary sculptural and audio installations, and scientific public discourse in a processual work of art at the Kassel State Theater. The artistic team of the temple project, 140 participants from the Kassel State Theater, the S4F community (Scientists for Future), the University of Kassel and representatives of the Kassel local community are looking for public, artistic and scientific examination of the current state of affairs via various stages and platforms.
In a 45-minute participatory performance, Katrin Hahner guided the participants through a somatic experience of the water and its capacity as a keeper of information.
Participants were guided to bring out their memories of water and spoke them into the water which was fetched from the river Fulda earlier. In a walk from the theatre the water was given back to the river bringing song and gratitude back into the cycle of water.
